The Yambila community in Endau/Malalani, Kitui East, has a reason to celebrate following the installation of a new borehole by gaming firm Mozzart Bet. This significant project marks the end of a prolonged period of water scarcity for the school and its surrounding community.

Previously, students had to trek over five kilometres to fetch water from Mutenyeko before attending classes. This journey, costing ten shillings per 20-litre jerry can, was a price many could not afford. The installation of the borehole promises to alleviate these hardships, providing a reliable source of water nearby.

Mozzart Bet’s Country Manager, Sasa Krneta, led the event, which was attended by county and national government officials, the Betting and Licensing Control Board (BCLB), and the Association of Gaming Operators in Kenya (AGOK).

“When the TV news showed the dire conditions the students endured, I knew Mozzart Bet had to help,” Krneta stated. “As a leader of a socially responsible organization, I want to be remembered as a change initiator and solution provider.”

Ann Too, director at BCLB, praised Mozzart Bet’s efforts, describing the project as a lifeline for the community. “We congratulate Mozzart Bet for their excellent CSR activities. The impact is evident, and I urge others to join hands with them in giving back more.”

AGOK official Laban Chege echoed these sentiments, encouraging Mozzart Bet to continue their impactful work. “We implore Mozzart Bet to continue with the good job. We have seen the firm touch lives and solve problems in the community.”

Call for More Corporate Involvement

Deputy Director at BCLB, Frederick Mbaisi, called for more corporate involvement to address the school’s needs. “We invited our licensees to help, and I am happy Mozzart Bet stepped up. We ask others to follow their example.”

Jeremiah Mbuvi, the school’s headteacher, expressed profound gratitude. “This area is extremely challenging in terms of social amenities and economics. The borehole and other donations from Mozzart Bet will greatly relieve our learners, teachers, and parents.”

‘Action 100 Wells’ Program

The borehole installation is part of Mozzart Bet’s ‘Action 100 Wells’ program, aimed at providing clean drinking water to underserved communities. “Projects like Action 100 Wells define our moral DNA as a corporate organization committed to social responsibility. This borehole is our 14th, marking our ongoing efforts to support water-stressed communities,” said Frank Okoth Ochieng, Mozzart Bet’s Head of Marketing and CSR.

Local leaders, including Endau Malalani MCA Erastus Musyoka Mbuno and former Assistant Minister Ezekiel Mwikya Mweu, called for further government support to improve the school’s infrastructure.

The event marked a significant turnaround for the Yambila community, promising a brighter and more sustainable future.
