Goldrush Slots Botswana has officially opened its first licensed gaming venue at Leobah’s Pub & Grill, Phase 4, Gaborone, following approval and inspection by the Gambling Authority. The site is the country’s first operational location under a Route Operator Licence for Limited Payout Machines (LPMs).
Regulatory green light
The Authority conducted its pre-opening inspection on 2 October 2025, followed by Responsible Gambling Training and preparatory sessions the next day. Officials verified surveillance and monitoring systems, tested communication links between gaming terminals, and confirmed the configuration of the LPMs.
After the inspection was successfully completed, the Authority cleared the site for launch during the week of 6 October.
“This milestone demonstrates Goldrush Slots Botswana’s commitment to delivering responsible, regulated gaming,” the company said in a statement, adding that it “remains dedicated to ensuring full compliance and operational readiness.”
Ceremony marks new chapter for Botswana gaming
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Acting Gambling Authority CEO Moruntshi Kemorwale, who described the opening as a significant step in advancing economic diversification and promoting the #MotshamekoOPhepa (“Responsible Gaming”) initiative.
“This is not only about entertainment, but about creating jobs and building a clean, transparent gaming industry that supports Botswana’s development goals,” Kemorwale said.
The Authority emphasised that all licensed operators must meet strict surveillance, data communication, and player protection standards before receiving operational clearance.
Boost for local economy and responsible gaming
Goldrush Slots Botswana’s entry into the market is expected to create local employment opportunities in operations, security, and compliance, while also raising awareness of responsible gaming practices.
Industry analysts view the launch as part of Botswana’s wider effort to formalise the gaming sector under the Gambling Act, 2019, positioning the country as a regulated market that balances growth with player protection.
