The Lagos State Lotteries Board (also known as the LSLB) is Nigeria’s foremost gambling regulatory body. The Board was established by the Lagos State Lotteries Laws Cap L89 2004 Laws of Lagos State, now known as the Lagos State Lotteries Amended Law of 2008. The LSLB oversees the regulation of local lotteries, sports betting sites, scratch card and interactive game provision, casino and gaming machine operations, pools betting, promotional contests, and all other gambling-related activities in the state of Lagos.

The Board first began its operations back in 2005, when it was granted the responsibility of establishing a regulatory framework that would bring Nigerian gambling in line with international standards. At the time, traditional paper ticket lotteries were commonplace, and the calculation of gaming taxes were challenging as there was no framework in place to determine how much operators should pay to charitable causes. It was not long before the Board had created a thriving gambling industry in the African nation.

The LSLB was also tasked with assisting operators to properly account for their sales revenues, while protecting players from unscrupulous providers and illicit casinos. The Board created the foundation of Nigeria’s current, stable gaming industry through setting up industry monitoring platforms, implementing effective policies, and promoting the industry’s long-term local growth.
