In a move that brought smiles and sighs of relief, Mozzart Bet Ltd has significantly uplifted Kwakoko Primary and Junior School in Machakos County. This Wednesday, they unveiled new, modern toilets for students and staff, alongside a generous donation of one hundred desks.

George Wawero, the school’s headteacher, couldn’t hide his gratitude. The intervention by Mozzart Bet not only salvaged the school’s pride but also averted a potential shutdown by the authorities. “This project has breathed new life into our school,” Wawero remarked, highlighting the critical timing of this support.

From Dilapidation to Dignity

Previously, the school’s sanitation facilities were in dire straits—old, crumbling pit latrines posed severe health risks and potential danger to the school’s young learners. “Mozzart has been our saviour,” Wawero shared, reflecting on the community’s unsuccessful attempts to upgrade these essential facilities.

The lack of proper latrine doors forced students, especially girls, into uncomfortable and undignified situations. “Girls had to go in pairs for privacy since we had no doors,” Wawero explained. This dire state of affairs negatively impacted enrollment and academic performance.

A Holistic Approach to Education

Sasa Krneta, Mozzart Bet Ltd’s county manager, emphasized that the new facilities aim to enhance not just hygiene and health but also students’ self-esteem, well-being, and academic experience. “We believe in supporting education for the present and future,” Krneta stated, highlighting previous successful projects like borehole drilling that have proven to boost academic engagement and outcomes.

Krneta’s message was clear: education is crucial, and corporate social responsibility initiatives like this can make a significant difference. He urged other companies, including those in the betting industry, to contribute to such transformative projects.

Judith Kirago, the chairperson of the Association of Gaming Operators, praised Mozzart for setting a commendable example. “Seeing the children’s happy faces with their new toilets and desks is heartwarming,” Kirago remarked, aligning this initiative with President William Ruto’s call for gaming operators to participate in community support through CSR activities actively.
