betPawa, a prominent sports betting firm, has announced its decision to step down as the primary sponsor of the Ghana Premier League. This move, made in agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), marks a strategic shift in their partnership approach. The company is now focusing on enhancing player welfare and directly benefiting footballers in Ghana.
In a recent official statement after much speculation about the sponsorship’s future, betPawa, revealed its revised strategy. A key component of this new approach is increasing the locker room bonus for players. The bonus will now be GHC 400, a significant rise from the previous GHS 150.
Revisiting the Sponsorship Agreement
This change follows a year after betPawa entered a three-year sponsorship contract in August 2022. The $6 million deal included an annual $2 million investment aimed at promoting the Ghana Premier League. Their involvement effectively ended a long period where the league lacked a headline sponsor. Now, hopes are high for a top Ghanaian betting site to replace betPawa as the new GPL sponsor.
Under the redefined partnership terms, betPawa has committed to completing the construction of the betPawa pitch at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. This commitment underscores the company’s dedication to infrastructure development in Ghanaian football.
In their statement, betPawa clarified, “Per our new partnership, we will be revising the betPawa Locker Room Bonus payment to the players from GHC 150 to 400 for every match their team wins.”
Continued Collaboration and Development Goals
betPawa reassured the sporting community of its ongoing collaboration with the GFA. The company emphasized its determination to continue contributing to developing and enhancing football standards in Ghana.
Expressing gratitude towards the GFA for their lasting partnership, betPawa confirmed their dedication to implementing the improved Locker Room Bonus for footballers. This move reflects a shift towards more direct support for players and their welfare.
