The Gambling Authority of Botswana has launched a significant research initiative aimed at understanding the prevalence of problem gambling across the nation. This proactive effort seeks to analyze gambling behaviours, identify risks, and develop strategies for responsible gambling.
A Data-Driven Solution
In collaboration with Integrated Research Hub (Pty) Ltd., a trusted local consultancy, the Gambling Authority is prioritizing an evidence-based approach to address problem gambling. This initiative will involve trained interviewers conducting face-to-face interviews at selected households nationwide. By gathering insights directly from communities, the study aims to comprehensively understand Botswana’s gambling habits.
Recognizing the Research Teams
To ensure transparency and foster trust, the Gambling Authority has made it easy for residents to identify the interview teams. Interviewers will wear official Gambling Authority-branded t-shirts and caps and carry visible national and work identification cards.
In a statement accompanying the launch, the Gambling Authority appealed for community cooperation:
“We appeal to communities to cooperate with our teams during this study. Interviewers will be identifiable by Gambling Authority branded t-shirts and caps/hats, as well as their national and work IDs.”
Addressing Concerns
The Gambling Authority has also established clear communication channels for residents who may have questions or concerns about the authenticity of the interviewers. Queries can be directed to Malebogo Lepere at +267 395 7672 or via email at mlepere@gamblingauthority.co.bw.
